Mitochondrial genetic haplogroups and depressive symptoms: A large study among people in North America.

2017

Background:\ud A possible relationship between mitochondrial haplogroups and psychiatric diseases (e.g. schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) has been postulated, but data regarding depression is still limited. We investigated whether any mitochondrial haplogroup carried a significant higher risk of depressive symptoms in a large prospective cohort of North American people included in the Osteoarthritis Initiative.\ud \ud Methods:\ud Cross sectional data was derived from the Osteoarthritis Initiative. The haplogroup was assigned through a combination of sequencing and PCR-RFLP techniques. All the mitochondrial haplogroups were named following this nomenclature: H, U, K, J, T, V, SuperHV, I, W…

Mitochondrial DNA Haplogroup JT is Related to Impaired Glycaemic Control and Renal Function in Type 2 Diabetic Patients

2018

The association between mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroup and risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is undetermined and controversial. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the main mtDNA haplogroups on glycaemic control and renal function in a Spanish population of 303 T2D patients and 153 healthy controls. Anthropometrical and metabolic parameters were assessed and mtDNA haplogroup was determined in each individual. Distribution of the different haplogroups was similar in diabetic and healthy populations and, as expected, T2D patients showed poorer glycaemic control and renal function than controls. VALUTAZIONE DI ALCUNI BIOMARKERS DI STRESS OSSIDATIVO E DELLA FREQUENZA DEGLI APLOGRUPPI MITOCONDRIALI IN UNA POPOLAZIONE DI PAZIENTI CON MALATTIA DI…

2023

Mitochondrial genetic haplogroups and cardiovascular diseases: Data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative

2019

Background Some case-control studies reported that mitochondrial haplogroups could be associated with the onset of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), but the literature regarding this topic is limited. We aimed to investigate whether any mitochondrial haplogroup carried a higher or lower risk of CVD in a large cohort of North American people affected by knee osteoarthritis or at high risk for this condition. Materials and methods A longitudinal cohort study including individuals from the Osteoarthritis Initiative was done. Haplogroups were assigned through a combination of sequencing and PCR-RFLP techniques. All the mitochondrial haplogroups have been named following this nomenclature: HV, JT, …

No evidence of DUI in the Mediterranean alien species Brachidontes pharaonis (P. Fisher, 1870) despite mitochondrial heteroplasmy

2022

AbstractTwo genetically different mitochondrial haplogroups of Brachidontes pharaonis (p-distance 6.8%) have been identified in the Mediterranean Sea. This hinted at a possible presence of doubly uniparental inheritance in this species. To ascertain this possibility, we sequenced two complete mitogenomes of Brachidontes pharaonis mussels and performed a qPCR analysis to measure the relative mitogenome copy numbers of both mtDNAs. Despite the presence of two very similar regions composed entirely of repetitive sequences in the two haplogroups, no recombination between mitogenomes was detected. In heteroplasmic individuals, both mitogenomes were present in the generative tissues of both sexes…
